Since launching over two decades ago, GBK now has more than forty restaurants across the UK and is a brand synonymous with the luxury burger market. Westpak worked alongside the brand to supply a redesigned selection of takeaway and home-delivery packaging that would provide both costs savings and enhanced durability whilst also maintaining excellent packaging sustainability.
By utilising our in-house design facilities and working with our expansive network of innovative suppliers and manufaturers, we were able to supply GBK with redesigned takeaway burger boxes and bags that offered ideal material specifications. Our ‘gourmet burger boxes’ provides a robust packaging solution. Manufactured from microflute Kraft card, these boxes utilise a high proportion of previously recycled content, are easily recyclable and are industrially compostable.
Our redeveloped fries bag also offered a range of clear benefits and specification improvements. We specified a single ply design over their previous two ply bags that offered cost savings but also offered enhance performance. These newly specified bags offered an excellent level of grease resistance that was able to maintain the heat of the fries’ far more efficiently which was an essential consideration for their ‘click and collect’ and home delivery services. We also supplied a new, redesigned large Kraft paper takeaway bag to complete the lineup of refreshed packaging.
The redesigned packaging was developed through a highly efficient supply chain that made use of our in-house design and graphics facilities to further streamline the product development process.

Westpak were given the opportunity to work alongside Sainsbury’s in supplying a redesigned box for their ‘Taste the Difference’ line of Medjool Dates. This project is the latest in a series of previous fresh produce packaging designs we have supplied to the renowned supermarket chain. For Sainsbury’s, the core driving principle behind this latest design was to deliver a branding refresh that felt befitting to this luxurious product line. The design team at Sainsbury’s were able to provide us with a finalised artwork design and were looking for a robust supply chain to ensure this revamped packaging design made it into their networks stores with complete reliability and peace of mind.
This project was perfectly positioned for us to utilise our already highly organised and reliable supply chain. By working with our network of expert suppliers and manufacturers we were able to provide the ideal solution with a real focus on efficiency and dependability. We undertook three stages of sampling and refinement in order to ensure each element of the brief was successfully mate. Firstly, a material sampling stage ensured the optimal board material was specified. Secondly, we payed close attention to colour swatch specifications to ensure completely branding compliance. And lastly, we carefully assessed a printed prototype before moving to production.
The finalised design was successfully distributed as a flat-packed item, which is easily assembled by hand. The design is manufactured from cartonboard, a material that boasts a range of environmental friendly attributes including being fully recyclable, and also featured a high-clarity plastic window for consumers to view the produce. The supplied deign also features a securely-fastening tab on the front-facing side of the box, ensuring the lid remains firmly closed once packed packed.
